FROM THE NEWSROOM: While there still has not been an official transfer of ownership of the former Kaman Aerospace facility in Moosup, a recent notification sent to the Board of Selectman in Plainfield shows that progress is certainly being made towards such a decision. A Historic Building Notification was received by the board regarding the South Main Street property, which First Selectman Paul Sweet says is all part of protocol for the district that houses the facility. Sweet says that this notification is necessary due to a town ordinance that requires legal notice whenever property within a historic district is set to be demolished. The former Kaman facility property is in a historic district, and while the First Selectman states that this ordinance in place primarily for structures like homes, commercial properties still have to follow the rules. Kaman Aerospace, which still owns the property, stated in the notification that they are in favor of granting demolition rights to a currently unnamed company, but that no permits will be given until the official transfer of the property is finalized. Sweet says there has recently been a lot of communication between that one company, the town, and Kaman, but that nothing official can be said, as the deal is still not complete. He did say, however, that should the transfer happen, he looks forward to significant activity once again taking place at the site of the former aerospace facility. Tune in for the full report.
