FROM TxDOT RE: LONG-TERM LOOP 250 CONSTRUCTION -- A project by TxDOT to resurface about 10 miles of Loop 250 on the west and north sides of Midland will dramatically alter traffic patterns for the next several months. TxDOTs contractor will resurface the road, install guard rails, replace several signs and add pavement markings to Loop 250 from I-20 on the west side of Midland to Garfield Street on the north side. Beginning Monday, 9/15, the passing lanes on Loop 250 between Garfield and Midkiff will be closed as the project begins. During that phase, the driving lanes and ramps will remain open. Once the passing lanes are completed, the contractor will move to driving lanes to complete the work in that segment. When the driving lanes are being worked on, ramp access will be restricted in the construction zones. Work is expected to move west and south from the Garfield-to-Midkiff portion in short segments. Segments will vary slightly in length to have the least impact on traffic as possible. The speed limit will drop to 50 miles an hour in the work zones. Please obey all signs and flaggers. Police will be monitoring the work zones and the City of Midland will work on timing traffic signals on the service roads in the construction areas to facilitate traffic flow as much as possible. Please avoid the area if possible on your commutes. The plan calls for work on each short segment to take about one week. The time frame could be extended if weather or other circumstances delay the project. The project is scheduled to be completed by February, but cold weather and/or precipitation may affect the ultimate schedule.
