FUREVER FOSTERS NEEDS YOUR HELP in locating a dog that is being used for fighting, is severely neglected and needs medical attention immediately. I received a call from a Mark Spoon of Benton Harbor yesterday, Saturday July 26th asking me for help. He said he is homeless and he had to place his femal dog at his mothers house for safe keeping. The dog is a blue heeler/jack russell/pit bull mix and she is approximately 2 years old. He explained that he could not stay at his mothers house because his little brother just got out of jail and is on probation for a crime he committed agains him and his mother kicked him out to allow his little brother to move back home. He had no choice but to leave his dog behind. His little brother allegedly began abusing his dog, beating her and starving her all while the mother sat back and watched. He then allegedly began to fight her with his dog (believed to be also a pit bull) and is allegedl allowing the neighbors dogs to fight her while she is chained up and defensless. I had asked Mark for the address to his mothers home in Benton Harbor MI so I can go and retrieve his dog and he refused to give me the address for fear I would bring the police and have his mother arrested. At that time he was probably correct. She is allegedly allowing all of this to go on in her home and is doing nothing about it. The dog is allegedly severely neglected and has either a broken leg or a severe infection that needs tending due to the fighting...it has been like this for a couple of weeks now and they refuse to get the dog medical attention. I do know from his frantic call to me that this dog is in dire need of help and I cannot help her if I do not know where the dog is. I have tried calling back the number he called from but have received no reply or my call is rejected. His mother did call me (from a blocked number) and leave me a very nasty message stating that dogs will be dogs and they fight. Even if they are not purposely fighting the dog (I am only going by what Mark Spoon informed me of) they are still severely neglecting the dog by not getting it prompt medical attention for an injury that can essentially result in death. I am not getting any assistance from the police so that is where I need help from the public. If you know Mark Spoon or his mothers address, please call the police immediately and send them to her house so they can do a welfare check on Marks dog before it is too late. If you can convince them to hand over the dog to me then I will not seek to press charges, I just want the dog so she can get the medical attention she so desperately needs. Please encourage them to do the right thing and relinquish her to FurEver Fosters. Please share and get the word out. I cannot save this dogs life unless I can get help from the public.
