Please contact Meredith Portonoff at: (818) 763-7940 Email: [email protected] Job Title: Housing Specialist Safe House-North Hollywood FLSA: Non-exempt Job Summary: Works with Emergency and Transitional clients to seek housing. Develops housing plans with clients that will lead to permanent affordable housing or other appropriate housing (as necessary). Assist clients residing in permanent housing as well as the program’s Spanish speaking population. Assist clients with job search, resume writing, rental applications, Section 8 or other subsidy applications, and linking Spanish speaking clients to services geared specifically for them. Qualifications: Must possess familiarity with office systems, equipment and procedures; computer literacy (Microsoft Word, Excel); excellent written and verbal skills. Must be organized, detail-oriented, and have the ability to perform multiple tasks efficiently. Must be able to maintain accurate records, compose effective business letters, prepare reports, and design forms. Sensitivity to substance using population. Must be bilingual Spanish speaking. Education and/ Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience. Experience with the or experience: HIV community. Knowledge of addiction and of programs specific to the population being served. Essential Duties: Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable qualified individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of the position. • Provides services, including assessment, housing plans, landlord/tenant assistance, etc. • Develops workshop curricula and facilitate workshops designed to educate PLWHA about tenant rights and responsibilities, personal finance, employment, and other skills building topics designed to promote the maintenance of permanent housing. • Ensure that people living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA) have access to legal services that could minimize the impact of poor rental/credit histories during housing search process. • Assist clients with locating and maintaining permanent housing by arranging appointments with housing providers, landlords and property managers and assist clients through the housing interview process. • Provide guidance on reading and negotiating lease terms with new landlord, and identifying resources to facilitate the move itself. • Meet with Permanent Housing clients to ensure all housing needs are met. • Assist in applications of food banks, rental assistance, transportation assistance. • Assist in the application process of obtaining low income utilities for longer term housing. • Make calls to various case managers to ensure medical services, appointments and benefits are active. • Meet with Spanish speaking populations to navigate longer term housing/seek services, seek information on immigration status. • Assist Safe House staff with perspective clients who are primary Spanish speaking in the intake process for entry into Safe House. • Research, create and maintain a database of housing supportive services and financial resources that are not HIV/AIDS specific. • Track and monitor clients’ progress for a minimum of one year (including services that will be provided to the client during the year based on need) as they move along the housing continuum. • Find opportunities and participate in collaborations with other housing providers. • Compile, report on, approve/deny, respond to, etc. completed housing related intake assessment interviews through prepared HOPWA Application by outside Social Service Agencies who meet with clients on a weekly basis and develop an Individualized Housing Plan (IHP) designed to facilitate the client’s transition into appropriate housing. • Ensure that each client is meeting the goals and timeline outlined on the HOPWA Service Plan Form. • Maintain accurate and confidential client program files. • Produce and complete monthly, quarterly, and annual program reports, as directed. • Other duties as assigned.
