FYI...... KABAYAN, BE AWARE OF CORONA VIRUS... September 17, 2013 6:11 PM, Nurse dies of corona virus in Saudi, A Filipino nurse in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia died of the coronavirus, the first Filipino to succumb to the virus that has so far infected over a hundred people worldwide and killed half of them. The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) confirmed that the 41-year-old Filipina nurse died on August 29, a week after she was confined for respiratory distress and hooked on a ventilator. Raul Hernandez, Department of Foreign Affairs spokesman, quoting reports from the Philippine Embassy in Riyadh, said: "Based on a medical report obtained, the deceased tested positive for the coronavirus before her death." Another Filipino, whose name is also being withheld, is being treated for the disease. She was reportedly infected while being confined for dialysis. The Middle East Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus (MERS-CoV) attacks the respiratory system and has often been compared with SARS, which caused global health panic a decade ago. Like SARS, the symptoms of the MERS-CoV include fever, cough, shortness of breath and diarrhea. According to Hernandez, the deceased Filipina was brought to the hospital August 12 to remove a fishbone stuck in her throat. She was dismissed two days later, but returned to the hospital on August 19 because of fever and cough. Doctors put her on a ventilator after she experienced respiratory distress on August 22; subsequently moving her to the intensive care unit when she was diagnosed with severe pneumonia. She died on August 29. The DFA is now coordinating with her family and the Department of Health (DOH) on measures that must be taken in repatriating her remains. "Our citizens are advised to follow the measures being taken by local health authorities to prevent the spread of the virus. They should also immediately seek medical attention if they feel any of the symptoms," he added. At least 104 people have been infected around the world, with half of these dying. Of the fatalities, 44 died in Saudi Arabia. Coronavirus has been reported among people living in the Gulf countries, Tunisia and Europe---specifically, Germany, France, Italy and Britain.
