FYI. Very annoying phone call and scam alert. Just got a call on my land line, claiming to be from an IRS Officer, and reported it to the FCC website. Did not report it to the IRS, because that would have been a waste of time. My report details the call: I received a phone call today at approximately 1:45 on our land line. I answered and heard a womans voice that sounded a bit vague, for lack of a better word, and attemping to be menacing. The voice stated that I was receiving a recorded call from the IRS and said something quickly and not very distinctly about retaining an attorney or legal representaion, but I could not say what for certain, and I am certain that this was intentional to get the immediate attention of and frighten the recipient of the call. She identified herself as Officer Julie something, but I was not near a pen and could not remember the last name when I had something to write with. She gave a phone number, 202-241-7215 and then went on to warn against ignoring the call. There was the implied threat, and perhaps real threat of prosecution, if the call was not returned. Then the number was repeated with the same warning not to disregard the call. I know that the IRS would not be in the business of calling and leaving a phone message, regardless of whats been in the news lately. We have no issues with the IRS and there is no reason we would expect to hear from them. If we did, we would expect to recieve notification by mail. I know that this was not normal proceedure, but was concerned about the perpetuation of a scam and fraud. I called the number given and a foreign sounding voice, Pakistani? or Indian? or Malaysian?, answered saying, Hello, this is IRS Officer Jeff Martin, how may I help you? Unlike the womans voice, his was warm and friendly, making every effort to put the caller at ease and establish an attitude of trust and safety. I hung up without saying anything. This is terribly disturbing.
