Fabrizio De Andrè. Lesson 11. Many Italian singers are known abroad except for one, who sure is the best of all. Fabrizio De Andrè is the Italian pride and still subject to study and interpretation. Before than a singer he is a great poet, but not one of those who are boring and difficult to understand. De Andrè is simple, direct, humble and deep at the same time. La Città Vecchia (The Old Town), about Genova, his city, is a wonderful song and can be studied with reference to a poem with the same title by Umberto Saba (a renowned Italian poet), which De Andrè imitated. While Saba looks at bad people living in the old town and feels superior to them, De Andrè is indulgent and forgives them.
