Facebook Parliament In order to cleanse our politics; to avoid personal mud-slinging and assert a healthy discussion of people’s issues, policy matters and governmental projects; to eliminate the domination of politics by political parties, politicians and their agents and encourage people’s participation; and to protect our democracy, we inaugurate the “Facebook Parliament” for all the 40 Parliamentary seats in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry here at Idinthakarai on November 4, 2013. We invite interested people to spend a portion of their time on these Pages to protect our democracy, change our political system and to bring about desired changes in the upcoming Parliamentary elections. We request you to do the following: [1] We have created 40 Facebook Pages for all the 40 Parliamentary constituencies in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. Please select your own constituency and connect yourself with that Page. [2] We all will select a few “Speakers” for each Page and they together will administer the Page without fear or favor. [3] The members will discuss the relevant past experiences of these constituencies, present problems and the future needs. The following issues could be given importance: [a] Issues related to social peace and security in the constituency. [b] Issues related to the people’s living better and safer. [c] Environmental issues, utilization and protection of natural resources etc. [d] Issues related to economic stability and growth. [e] Other people’s issues and intellectual concerns. [4] As we approach the Parliamentary elections, we will also discuss the qualifications, and the merits and demerits of various candidates, and help the people of our constituency to elect the best one. After all, the public elections are everyone’s concern as it is going to decide our and our children’s futures. We request the cooperation of everyone concerned in this task. An important warning though: we should not be satisfied with this activity alone and should consider this only as the beginning of a long and hard struggle to protect and enrich our democracy.
