These are the facts and figures on the trend of terrorism in Nigeria since 2010. Serially number as they sequentially occurred with their dates, deaths, and figures appositely stated. 1. On the 7th of September 2010, total number of 50 gunmen claiming to be members of Boko Haram broke into Bauchi Prison. They freed 721 men, in the process, 5 persons died with 6 others injured. 2. On December 31 2010, there was a bomb attack on a barracks in the outskirts of Abuja, Nigeria, Four people were killed, including a pregnant woman, and 26 were injured. Boko Haram claimed responsibility. 3. On Friday January 21st, 2011, 20 bombs were detonated by Boko Haram during the protests against fuel subsidy. more than 160 people were killed, 4. On the 22 of April 2011, Boko Haram freed 14 prisoners during a jailbreak in Yola, Adamawa State. 5. Few hours after Goodluck Jonathan was sworn in, there were explosions in Zuba International Market in Abuja, killing two people (including a young girl) and injuring 11 others. Three blasts also struck the Mammy Market in Bauchi, near the headquarters of Nigerias 33rd Artillery Brigade. Thirteen died and 40 were injured. Two bombs also went off in Zaria, seriously injuring four. All these happened on the 29th May 2011 infact was tagged northern Nigeria bombings. 6. On the 16th of June 2011. They bombed police headquarters bombing. I repeat Louis Edet House in Abuja, the headquarters of the Nigeria Police Force. 7. On the 26th of June, 2011, there was a bomb attack near a beer garden in Maiduguri, this left 25 dead and 12 injured. 8. On the 10th of July 2011, there was Bombing at the All Christian Fellowship Church in Suleja, Niger State. 9. On the 11th of July, 2011, the University of Maiduguri temporarily closed down its campus citing security concern threat. 10. On the 12th of August, 2011, a Prominent Muslim Cleric Liman Bana was shot dead by Boko Haram 11. 26th August, 2011, a car loaded with bomb exploded in the Nigerian capital Abuja, wherein the UN building was bombed killing at least 21 and wounded 60. 12. On the 4th of November, 2011, there was what they called 2011 Damaturu attacks. There were series of coordinated assaults that killed more than 100 people and injured hundreds more. 13. 25th of December 2011, there was also what was termed December 2011 Nigeria bombings. There were bomb blasts and shootings at churches in Madalla, Jos, Gadaka, and Damaturu. A total of 41 people were reported dead. 14. On the 5–6 and 20 of January 2012, we had January 2012 Nigeria attacks. There were series of assaults on Christian churches and businesses in northeastern Nigeria followed by attacks on police stations and government offices in the north. Over 185 people were killed, amongst the dead was television reporter Enenche Akogwu, shot while covering the aftermath of the terrorist attacks. 15. Also on the 8th of March 2012, during a British hostage rescue attempt to free Italian engineer Franco Lamolinara and Briton Christopher McManus, abducted in 2011 by a splinter group Boko Haram, both hostages were killed. 19. The 31 of May 2012 witnessed a Joint Task Force raid on a Boko Haram den, it was reported that 5 sect members and a German hostage were killed. 20. On the 3rd of June 2012, 15 church-goers were killed and several injured in a church bombing in Bauchi state. Boko Haram claimed responsibility through spokesperson Abu Qaqa. 21. The 17th of June 2012 had suicide bombers striking three churches in Kaduna State. At least 50 people were killed. 22. 17 June 2012 recorded,130 bodies, found in Plateau State. We were told that they were killed by Boko Haram members. 23. On the 3rd of October 2012, around 25–46 people were massacred in the town of Mubi in Nigeria during a night-time raid. 24. 18th of March 2013 we also had 2013 Kano Bus bombing: At least 22 killed and 65 injured, when a suicide car bomb exploded in Kano bus station. 25. The 7th of May 2013 witnessed at least 55 persons killed and 105 inmates freed in coordinated attacks on army barracks, a prison and police post in Bama town. 26. On the 6th of July 2013 Yobe State school shooting: 42 people, mostly students, were killed in a school attack in northeast Nigeria. 27. Also on 29 September 2013, College of Agriculture in Gujba was attacked with 40 students killed. 28. At about 4.30am on Saturday the 5th of October 2013, some suspected Boko Haram insurgents invaded Damboa, a small community about 87 kilometres away from Maiduguri, attacked worshippers in a mosque and killed five of them who came to say their morning prayers. 29. On the 20/10/2013, Boko Haram group launched an attack on Logomani village in Dikwa Local Government Area of Borno State killing at least 20 persons while 10 others were injured. 30. From thursday 24th till Friday 25th of October, 2013, there was exchange of gunfire between the insurgents and a combined team of soldiers of the Division 3 of the Nigerian Army, the police and operatives of the State Department commenced by 6.30pm and lasted till the early hours of Friday. Security operatives returned the fire of the insurgents, killing over 50 of them on Thursday night. Friday that the Special Forces acting on a tip-off killed 13 of the insurgents on their way to Maiduguri. Also further, the 7 Division of the Nigerian Army, encountered the insurgents along Beni-Sheikh – Dohoma Lawanti – Galangi road in Yobe state killing at least 70 of the insurgents. 31. On the 2nd of November a total of 30 persons, including a bridegroom, family members and friends were killed in an attack by gunmen suspected to be members of the Boko Haram sect in Michika local government area of Adamawa State. 32. The Nigerian Army, 7 Division, on thursday the 14th of Nov, 2013 said its troops killed nine suspected Boko Haram terrorists in Rimanti Alagarno villages of Damboa local government area of Borno state. 33. On Wednesday the 13th of November, 2013, a classical report has it that the kidnapped Roman Catholic priest Georges Vandenbeusch, is believed to be held by terrorist group Boko Haram. 34. On Wednesday 13th of November, 2013 the United States listed both Boko Haram and Ansaru as terror groups, bowing to months of pressure to act after years of bloody violence in northeast and central Nigeria that has left thousands dead. 35. Between Monday the 11th and Wednesday the 13th of November, 2013, the Boko Haram insurgents in Bdagu, Izge, Hartsa and Yazza villages in Gwoza, Damboa and Askira-Uba Local Government Areas of Borno State, ransacked houses killing 26 people with several hundreds were displaced from their houses. About 40 houses were said to have been set ablaze. An unconfirmed report said that three of the attackers were also killed. 36. “In the late hours of Friday, Nov. 15, troops of the 7 Division, Nigerian Army, “Bita town is believed to be a Boko Haram stronghold, from where the terrorists launched attacks on isolated villages and motorists along the road to Gwoza and Damboa. “During the encounter, 20 suspected Boko Haram militants were killed, while scores of vehicles and 50 motorcycles were destroyed. 37. Borno state, 12 people were killed when over 30 gunmen suspected to be members of the dreaded Islamic sect, Boko Haram on Sunday invaded Sandiya village of Danboa LGA of Borno state on Sunday the 24th day of November, 2013. The attack was said to be in retaliation for information passed to security men about them. 38. Between Sunday 24th and Monday 25th of November 2013, More than 40 suspected Boko Haram members were killed in an offensive by the men of 7 Division, Nigerian Army, in Bita village, Damboa-Gwoza road in Borno State. 39. On the 11th of December, 2013 the members of Boko Haram ambushed and slaughtered 9 passengers on the Maiduguri-Damboa highway. 40. On the 26th day of January 2014 a total of 74 souls were killed as militants attacked Kawuri village in Borno state as a busy market was packing up on Sunday, setting off explosives and setting houses ablaze. Witnesses said 52 people were killed in that attack, while 22 died in an attack on a church service in Waga Chakawa village, Adamawa state, on Sunday. 41. On the 11th of February, 2014 in the Konduga Local Government Area of Borno state, dozens of residents were killed. The attack occurred about 35 kilometers (22 miles) southeast of the Borno state capital of Maiduguri, almost halfway between the sites of Boko Harams twin December attacks on military facilities in Maiduguri and Bama. According to survivors, approximately 400 Boko Haram fighters dressed in camouflage and led by an armored personnel killed over 39 people, however, and reports said over 1,000 homes and a mosque were burned to the ground. 42. On the 15th of February 2014 total of 115 including an old woman, have been killed by the attackers, suspected to be Boko Haram gunmen in the Christian village of Izghe in Borno State. According Senator Ali Ndume said. “Sixty of the dead have been buried while the rest are awaiting burial. 43. On the 25th of February, 2014 reports from Yobe State indicate that about 29 students of the Federal Government College, Buni Yadi, were killed on Monday night while they slept in their dormitories. The spokesperson of the Joint Task Force, JTF, in the state, Lazarus Eli, confirmed the attack to Aljazeera network. Later the death toll increased to 59 as additional 30 students were reported dead. 44. Meanwhile, on Friday the 28th of February, 2014 a female student of the state college of education, Waka, in Biu LGA was said to have been slaughtered by suspected Boko Haram insurgents. 45. On the 1st of March, 2014, Twin explosions, Saturday evening, rocked a football viewing centre in Ajilari ward, Jere Council area of Maiduguri, the Borno State capital killing several football fans totaling 100. In another location, Dugolong village, in Askira Uba local government area of the state, about 20 persons were allegedly killed, during an air strike. It is unconfirmed whether they are terrorists or civilians. 46. On tuesday the 4th of March 2014, nsurgents suspected to be members of the Boko Haram sect attacked Jakana village in Maiduguri Borno State, killing forty five people including little kids. The armed men who came with explosives and petrol-bombs in 21 Toyota Hilux vehicles and motorcycles also killed two policemen. 47. There was serious explosions and gunfire at the volatile northern Nigerian city of Maiduguri precisely Fauri area of the city on Friday 14th of March 2014 as scores of suspected Boko Haram Islamists attacked a military barracks. The Boko Haram insurgents, after crossing a river on the fringes of the city. They opened fire on the Giwa military barracks, sparking a fierce exchange of fire. Similarly during the Boston Marathon blast on April 15, 2013, 3 people were killed and a total of 264 persons were injured. The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) took over the investigation, and on April 18, released photographs and surveillance video of two suspects as Dzhokhar and Tamerlan Tsarnaev. Shortly after the FBI released the images, the suspects allegedly killed an MIT police officer, carjacked an SUV, and initiated an exchange of gunfire with the police in Watertown, Massachusetts. An unprecedented manhunt ensued on April 19, with thousands of law enforcement officers searching a 20-block area of Watertown. During the manhunt, the authorities asked residents of Watertown and surrounding areas, including Boston, to stay indoors, and the public transportation system and most businesses and public institutions were shut down, resulting in a deserted urban environment of historic size and duration. At around 7 pm, shortly after the shelter-in-place advisory was rescinded, a Watertown resident discovered the suspect hiding in a boat in his back yard. On April 22 while still in the hospital, Dzhokhar was charged to court on 30 total charges bothering on use of a weapon of mass destruction and malicious destruction of property resulting in death. Also on the 21st of September, 2013 there was a terrorist attack at Westgate shopping mall in Nairobi, Kenya. Professor Kofi George Awoonor-Williams was among those who were killed. On the 5th of October, 2013, the footage of those involved in the attack came to light. Unfortunately, on the day of the Kenya bombing, the President of Nigeria Goodluck Ebele Jonathan promised Uhuru Kenyatta and the people of Kenya that he will supply soldiers in an effort to help Kenya curb the insurgency and activities of Al Shabaab. Well if he said so I have no objection but I dey laugh. Well that was effective justice; first to the tax payers, to the bereaved and to the offenders.
