Facts File! Olukayode Salako writes: I have read it almost everywhere, including in the Punch news paper of Tuesday, March 20, that the Nigerian youths are not happy with the low level of representation at the on-going National Conference. Just 18 youth delegates out of 492! Many Nigerian youths are not happy with this deliberate marginalisation of the Youth representation at the conference. They argue that the conference is to discuss the future of Nigeria and find realistic solutions to her seemingly many intractable problems. They say the Nigerian Youths are the future of the country, so the conference ought to be populated with more youthful delegates far more that the population of the old and very old people currently populating the conference right now. I am of the opinion that the Nigerian elders and the old ones, wont ever take the Youths seriously. Of course, the youths themselves are the cause, especially the educated, exposed and civilised ones, majority of who are not interested in the state of the nation. No reasonable elder will take many of the youths seriously, because they know that an average Nigerian youth is interested only in anything that has to do with singing, dancing, drinking, partying, acting, watching movies and premiership footbal matches. And that is if they are not in church or mosque, fasting and praying for God to come down and fix the nation. If indeed the Nigerian youths have people who have interest more in the affairs of the nation, Nigeria and Nigerians wont ever continue to suffer under their watch! They wouldnt have allowed the elders to be dictating the pace of everything in the country in the first place. Now. So, what do most of the youths know about the national conference that they want to go and talk about? This is not UEFA championship or Nollywood maters. If the old ones are dominating Nigeria, whos fault?!
