Faculty at Ontario’s 24 colleges reached a tentative agreement with the College Employer Council on Friday, August 29, after negotiating through the summer. Details of the agreement will be released to the members prior to the ratification vote in late September, 2014. I want to congratulate College faculty on negotiating a tentative contract that helps to protect and enshrine quality education for students,” said OPSEU President Warren (Smokey) Thomas. This has been a productive round of negotiations, and I cannot say enough about the quality of the bargaining team and how they represented their members,” said OPSEU Negotiator, Mark Kotanen. “It was done right – with attention both to the details and the larger issues. “College faculty first and foremost are here for the students. We believe this tentative agreement reflects that,” said Kotanen. OPSEU represents more than 12,000 full-time and partial-load faculty members at colleges across Ontario. Faculty members include counsellors, instructors, professors and librarians.
