Family and Friends in Hawaii, be sure to secure your lighter - TopicsExpress

Family and Friends in Hawaii, be sure to secure your lighter belongings over the next day (not saying to board up or evacuate but just to be prepared). Tropical storm Flossie is forecasted to weaken over the next 48 hours, however remember the Hurricane Katrina scenario and what it did to the Gulf coast states (I’m not saying she will make it to Hurricane level, but I am siding with the err of caution). After it crossed the Florida Peninsula she was forecasted to weaken in the Gulf of Mexico. Well we know how that turned out (sorry Gulf Coast friends), she hit warm water and blew up. With that said, Flossie is heading into warmer water (which is favorable for Cyclone formation) but the only thing hindering that Cyclone intensification is that she will be entering a “forecasted” less than favorable area (a westerly shear) that offsets the warmer sea temperatures. She will cross the Big Island as a tropical storm bringing excess of 50MPH winds and shall weaken but not until it passes Kauai. With that said and since it will be in “Tropical Storm” status with its present movement will pass to the south of but Hawaiian Island chain will be on the right quadrant of the storm which is the strongest wind side and the side which is responsible for the storm surge. So like I said secure your lighter belongings and possibly tie down the rest. And I hope you will be ready for some rain.
