Fan Share: This is something that has been weighing on my heart recently about reading through this page, and I would like to share my opinion with others in hopes that they realize the things they are saying can be truly hurtful to others. I am not trying to step on any toes...and I am truly sorry if i do, but, i have seen on here that there are quite a few concerned soon to be mothers who have received test results stating that their baby could possibly have Down Syndrome, which I have no doubt is a very scary concept for a parent, but it is not the worry of the soon to be mother that concerns me, it is the response she is getting from other mothers or soon to be mothers. For example, Dont worry, I tested positive and my baby was born normal. or A friend of mine tested positive and she had a normal baby. My baby was born perfect! Its the use of the words, normal and perfect that really bothers me. Who is to say just because a child was born with something just a little extra makes them anything BUT normal or perfectly perfect. I have a cousin living with Down Syndrome, and she is probably more normal than anyone else I know, not to mention the most beautiful and smartest of us all. I just ask that people think twice about the words and actions they use when it comes to others and their feelings. It may seem harmless to some, but to others it can be taken hurtfully. I am not bashing any parent who has received scary news when it comes to their child, I have been there, I have received scary news, I know how you are feeling, but for anyone to assume that any child is less than normal or perfect because they are a little different, is whats not normal.
