Fantastic piece Boniface Mwangi I couldnt help but realise that this video fundamentally challenges one of the reasons why so many AIESECers these days go on Community Development Exchange Programs with AIESEC today (and in the past). Things that stood out for me: Faux Heroism, Glorification, Youre not going there to save anybody, Youre going to save yourself., Theres nothing wrong with going abroad, service is a noble idea. What you need to realise is WHY youre doing it. If I dare say, this is an Africans message for the rest of the world. Musing: I have attended conferences where I was one of the only 2 African delegates (out of hundreds) and here comes the topic of Poverty in Africa. Im sorry but its almost impossible to deconstruct this issue amongst privileged university students, so far removed from the physical and cultural reality of Africa and get practical output. It does no one service, just furthering a misconception or incomplete idea. Completely by passing issues in your local context doesnt make the world better, it just acts as an excuse for you and your responsibility to YOUR community. Bless.
