Farewll to Ian Kennedy Words by Dilip Parekh 12th Nov 2013 Service at Fremantle Cemetery No, we will not be quiet. No, we cant just accept this without tears, grief and much sorrow. No, this is not right. How can we understand? Jah, you let us down. Jah, you blinked. Jah you have hurt us. How could you let this happen ? We want to know WHY, we are trying to understand, to see how this saddest of situations should happen. Why take away our beautiful loving friend Ian ? A man full of life and joy: a shining example to others that we create the life around us through hard effort, determination and striving towards your own big bright dreams. Ian showed that .. yes ... you can make things happen as you wish. With his loving forever soul partner, Sandra two children Lisa and Liam and supportive family most of whom are here now. Not to mention the wide circle of friends. They gave him the strength to make his remarkable achievements in his work, play and as an active member of our local community here - Freo. Ian and Sandra managed to hurl themselves right into the heart of the local arts and music community. Thats where I met them and immediately hit it off. A shared view that Life is Wonderful, and a shared passion for Reggae music in all its variant forms. Sandra and Ian were invariably there at shows, talking smiling dancing and celebrating community. Didnt take him long to get to know folks with his cheeky smile and mischievious humour. Always together those two. I remember him saying shes way too pretty to leave on her own. He was always there right by her side. He truly understood and felt the healing properties of the music. Reggae is spiritual music; healing music to lift your heart. it strengthens the oppressed and the impoverished, and joins people together as one .... just like Bob Marley says ... Its all about ... ONE LOVE ! Its also political of course. Its a powerful force, and it binds us all together through fun and deeply moving riddims. He loved Ska too and that was the scooter rider in him coming out . Same again, a sense of fun. Ian and Sandra understood that theres a wonderful community here in Freo of talented folks in all endeavours, people with tolerant views. and that you have to make the effort to get in amidst it all. Life is enriched when you surround yourself with others who share similar positive attitudes, and this they did. On behalf of all us Freo folks, the Freo community I would like to say to you Sandra, Lisa Tim Liam that we share your grief and offer you our support and love, for its only through united effort and love that we we all can get through this. Well never undersand it. But good folks, lets all help each other through. Jah BLESS .... One Love
