Farmer Donations Voice Your Views on this Bill about Local Farmers Donations Last year the Alabama Sweet Potato Growers Association, Crow Mountain Orchard and so many other family farmers donated locally produced fruits, vegetables, and meats to the Food Bank of North Alabama, Society of St. Andrew, church pantries, soup kitchens and children backpack programs across north Alabama. However, the tax deduction local farmers receive for these donations recently expired. This fall Congress will consider the America Gives More Act (HR 4719). It would restore the tax deduction for food donated by farmers to charities feeding the hungry. If you wish to voice your views on this important legislation, take 5 minutes to call on Wednesday, November 12th. It is is easy. Dial this toll free number (888) 398-8702, listen to the pre-recorded message and enter your zip code when prompted. Once you are connected to your senator, explain that you are a constituent and give your name and the name of your home town. Let them know you are calling about the food donation tax legislation. You can share the information below. Senator/Representative, please include the America Gives More Act (HR 4719) in tax legislation this year. The legislation improves tax incentives for food donations and would help farmers, small businesses, and other donors to donate food to food banks and other local charities. We waste thousands of pounds of food each year in the fields, and yet over 80,000 residents in north Alabama turn to the Food Bank and local food pantries each year because they are at risk of hunger. You can help local farmers and food banks get more food to those in need in our community by passing food donation legislation before the end of the year. After you speak to your Senator, you can dial back, give you zip code and ask to speak to your Representative. You can also let your Senator know your opinion by emailing their staff here [email protected] and [email protected].
