Farmers to match up to $25,000 for victims of Typhoon Haiyan With sustained winds of over 145 miles per hour and gusts of up to 170 miles per hour, Typhoon Haiyan (Yolanda) is recognized as the strongest typhoon to hit the Philippines this year, and perhaps in recorded history. The storm affected 9.5 million people across 36 provinces. Meanwhile, 1,400 evacuation centers are housing more than 330,000 people left homeless by the storm. It is projected that up to 10,000 people could have perished during the storm. Philippine Red Cross volunteers across the region continue to report significant damage and the extent of the devastation continues to unfold. While communications in the Philippines is limited and many areas remain inaccessible, Philippine Red Cross volunteer rescue and relief teams are working quickly to provide assistance to communities with search and rescue, as well as distributing food and relief supplies to survivors. Farmers will match up to $25,000 of your donations to help victims get the supplies and care they need. Donations will go to aid the American Red Cross International Response Fund which will provide specialists, supplies and significant financial assistance to support this operation.
