Fascinating how the election gets treated like a Sunday football - TopicsExpress

Fascinating how the election gets treated like a Sunday football game, with teams that have either won or lost, and fans who feel either elated or deflated. When did governance become a spectator sport, complete with team colors and mascots, rather than a sober decision-making process to determine what issues we, the citizenry, wanted to address, and how we wished to steward our shared resources? Nobody truly wins or loses in these bread and circus showdowns anymore. The power/dominator system carries on, unperturbed, with ensuring the wealthy capitalists protect and expand their wealth. It makes sure the struggling workers continue to need to work, thereby ensuring the capitalists have plenty of cheap human fodder for their needs. It provides the poor and disenfranchised with just enough to keep them from rebelling, but not enough to enable them to advance their lot in life. And we all watch this charade with the fascination of children, imagining that our participation in it—our support for our team—holds the power to change things. We wont change things— we have no HOPE of actively changing things—until we awaken from this conditioned slumber and change the entire system for the sake of ALL life on Earth. - Eileen Workman
