Fasting had become a mere religious observance to many Christians - TopicsExpress

Fasting had become a mere religious observance to many Christians today. Many use it as an Exchange for divine visitation - in other words, they felt that God must hear them because of their fasting and not because of their correct living and trust in God. THIS IS WRONG. The FASTING that the LORD has prescribed is to . . . . loose the bands of wickedness, to undo heavy burdens, and to let the oppressed go free, . . . to distribute bread to the hungry and to bring the poor that are cast out of the house; to take care of your neighbor and do righteousness . That is the divine agenda for biblical fasting. This period of Lent or Fasting, is not a period for mere observance; It is not also a time for religious cover up. It is a time for penitence, prayer, petition, warfare, welfare of others and breakthrough. When we fast, Christ insists that we shall not be like the hypocrites who put on sad looks by disfiguring their faces, that they might appear to men to fast; when we fast, we should look clean, cheerful and pray to the Lord who sees in the secret; and also rewards openly .
