Fatawa: ISLAMIC AND OTHER MARRIAGES Question:- If I ask a woman to be my wife and she accepts that and I accept her to be my wife and the God is the witness on that. Is that possible and the marriage is not temporary? What is the difference between the marriage in the Islamic way and other ways, such as Christian? Answer:- For an Islamic marriage to be valid according to Sharia, the following conditions must be met: 01. The bride must have the consent of her guardian. 02. Two witnesses must be present. 03. The husband must give his wife a dowry (bridal money given by the groom to the bride). So, any man who says to a woman "I want to marry you", and she accepts, the act of marriage must include these elements or their marriage is invalid. The Prophet said: "Any woman who marries without the consent of her Wali (guardian) her marriage is null, her marriage is null, her marriage is null"[Reported by Imams Abu Dawood and Tirmizi].
