#Fayetteville, N.C., #veteran recognized by President during D-Day remarks -- U.S. President Barack Obama, left, and French President Francois Hollande, right, wave with #WorldWarII veteran Kenneth Rock Merritt, 91, as they arrive for the official lunch at Benouville Castle, in #Normandy, #France, June 6. World leaders and veterans paid tribute on the 70th anniversary of the World War Two D-Day landings to soldiers who fell in the liberation of Europe. When listing veterans of the invasion, Obama highlighted Merritt who saw a recruitment poster asking him if he was man enough to be a #paratrooper - so he signed up on the spot. And that decision landed him here on #DDay with the 508th regiment, Obama said. And 70 years later, its said that all across Fort Bragg, N.C., they know Rock - not just for his exploits on D-Day, or his 35 years in the #USArmy, but because 91-year-old Rock Merritt still spends his time speaking to the young men and women of todays #Army and still bleeds O.D. Green for his 82nd Airborne Division.
