February 2, 2014, 1:00-2:30 pm Awash A curator/artist conversation with curator, Jill Conner & artist, Blane De St. Croix Seating will be limited | RSVP to [email protected] As a result of Hurricane Sandy, Blane De St. Croix’s studio in Dumbo, Brooklyn was flooded with 6 feet of water that destroyed all contents: art on paper, materials, tools, equipment and publications. The cause of this effect has been the muse of De St. Croix’s art for many years most notably with installations such as Broken Landscape, that debuted at Smack Mellon in 2009 before appearing in 2010 at the gallery of Future Arts Research, located in Pheonix, Arizona and currently at San Antonio’s Blue Star Gallery, which will be on view through February 16th, 2014. Blane De St. Croix will address the impact of Hurricane Sandy upon his artistic practice, highlighting his multilayered approach to creating renditions of environmental issues as they relate to individuals, communities, bureaucracies and larger government bodies. Blane De St. Croix is Professor of Sculpture at the Henry Radford Hope School of Fine Arts, Indiana University. He lives and works in New York City. De St. Croix’s work has been widely exhibited both nationally and internationally, in solo and group shows. Blane De St. Croix has been the recipient of numerous grants and awards.
