Fellow academics as you embark on a new semester--take 10 minutes to read this excellent article, a summary of what has become of universities. I am involved in fighting back against this attack at my university through my union, the Rutgers AAUP-AFT , and over the last few years have been educating myself on the various awful trends in higher education (the increase in part time workers, bloated managements with huge salaries, the attacks on humanities departments, the influence of corporations on the research agenda etc.) These things are happening at your university as well. So please read, think, and then organize!
