Female Genital Mutilation curtails the ability of girls and women - TopicsExpress

Female Genital Mutilation curtails the ability of girls and women to advance themselves by disadvantaging them in their education, health and enjoyment of their basic rights. Even with a law prohibiting the practise, the practice still exists with Baringo County having a prevalence of 49%. It is for this reason that as Mama County, I am championing the elimination of this practise and today I am at Lake Bogoria Secondary school in Loboi together with Hon Linah Jebii Kilimo, Chairpeson, National Anti FGM Board to preside over the graduation of 326 girls drawn from Loboi, Kiserian and Tangulbei who have successfully undergone an alternative rite of passage which is a best practise in the strategy against FGM. As they graduate today, the girls have demonstrated unity that we need to emulate as a county. I congratulate them, their parents, the churches, the community and the partners who supported the program, World Vision and UNFPA. They go out as champions of development, education advancement and ambassadors of unity for the people of Baringo. God bless you all.
