Few years ago ...I skippered this yacht, she is 80ft/24 meters. Its not that easy to handle her characteristic as she had only single propeller especially when coming to dock in a marina..although she is equipt with "Bow Truster" but its never been working. As a Captain of a sailing yacht ....I must know passage planning ,charts, navigation aids, docking ,boat handling and not to forget few gadgets in the chart house , voice communication and basic enginering( engine & generator) . A good knowledge of marine first aid, rules associated with collision avoidance, taking command of the watch...course consideration of hazard, tidal gates, daylight hours etc. Waypoints located and plotted, distance between way points, bearings calculated for each waypoint including allowance for variation, time to reach each waypoint and estimated average speed...tidal current and wind direction on prposed course and journey time and estalished estimated position plotting....apart from those, must also know sails and sail handling..when to reef, furling and sail selection. If you are lucky ...If the Boss(Owner ) likes you , the Boats is yours , but if he dosent understand about it...you got the hell to keep him calm and comfortable...maybe to employed single beatuful philipinos girl as your stewardess...hheee. I enjoyed and have more fun after retired from the navy and I am entitled to be called Captain too.....
