Fifty 15-18 year olds attended the UNICEF New Zealand Youth Congress in Christchurch over the weekend. Among the six priority actions the group identified would improve the lives of young people, they called on political parties to create a more equal society and to ensure adequate funding for schools and encourage the development of schools as focal points or community hubs. We whole-heartedly agree! Our Schools at the Heart policy aims to tackle the effects of growing inequality on children’s educational achievement by establishing on-site community hubs in low decile schools. greens.org.nz/schoolsattheheart
