Fifty soldiers from the U.S. Army 3d U.S. Infantry Regiment (The Old Guard) 1st Battalion Unit Ministry Team participated in a Spiritual Fitness Event in Washington, DC on November 21,2014. The day began with breakfast and Soldiers filling their ruck sacks with over 600 pounds of clothing donated from Soldiers in the Battalion. Chaplain Canada spoke on what it means to “Nurture the Living” and how to nurture Family and Soldiers. Then, the Soldiers road marched to the WWII Memorial to “Honor our Fallen” by discussing the battle of Tarawa which took place on 21 November 1943. The group took time to remember and pray for those who have fallen in the past and those who have fallen during Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom. The Soldiers finished the road march where they delivered clothes to The Father McKenna Center. Soldiers learned what it meant to “Care for the Wounded” by doing jobs around the center and taking time to talk with the men at the shelter. #SaturdaySalute
