Fifty years ago today the world changed forever. I was in grammar school when the school nurse walked into our classroom and told us the news. Everyone started to cry. I walked home that day and sat down with my family to watch it all come down on television like evrybody else did. The assasination was followed by the civil rights movement and Viet Nam. One person said All of a sudden all these terrible things started happening . After college I joined VISTA, Volunteers In Service To America. The domestic branch of the Peace Corps started by President Kennedy. I worked in anti poverty programs for four years in Chicago. I hope my work as a newsman has also been of service. As Senator Ted Kennedy said, For all those whose cares have been our concern, the work goes on, the cause endures, the hope still lives, and the dream shall never die . Amen. What do you think.
