Fighting HD TV Decoders. Since approximately 5 years I have HD TV - TopicsExpress

Fighting HD TV Decoders. Since approximately 5 years I have HD TV with my cable subscription. With such a subscription comes a HD TV decoder, and that is where the fun starts. I actually was one of the first digital subscribers (are you surprised for a telecom engineer?) and I knew it wasn’t going to be easy, because traditional cable companies are grey dull organizations that are already using the same technology for more than 30 years. But with Digital TV they completely have to change their technology perception and service attitude. During the last 5 years I used up no less than 4 HD TV Decoders (for the connaisseurs: the ones from Scientific Atlanta, now part of the Cisco empire). Reason: they simply stopped working, perhaps of old age, I don’t know. LOL. You guess it already: last week Nr 5 suddenly died, not even 1 year old, and this afternoon I made a funeral trip to the Cable company in the expectance of picking up Nr 6. However someone with Numericable finally must have noticed they were spending too much on the Scientific Atlantas, and now they gave me a SAGEM HD TV decoder. OMG – a French one: panic !!! With some reluctance I took it home, expecting to witness once again a Sudden Death. But guess what: I had it up and running within three minutes, and that included a tea break. :) The SAGEM clearly outperforms the Scientific Atlanta, and all it does is keep working and working, not constantly going back into re-initialization (like the Scientific Atlantas do). It seems that Numericable finally understands HD TV Business. Well done! I think tonight I will watch a VOD (Video On Demand). ;)
