Filipino Canadian Association of Vaughan need your help!! To donate call Tel: (905) 881-4600, email: fcav@rogers Dear friend of FCAV: We are asking for your help. The Filipino Canadian Association of Vaughan is leading a project to build a Filipino Canadian Cultural Center in Vaughan at the site of the Patricia Kemp Community Center on Dufferin St., north of Centre St. As you may have heard, the Council of the City of Vaughan unanimously approved the granting of a 20 year lease of the Patricia Kemp Community Center to the Filipino Canadian Association of Vaughan. Although the lease was granted with much fanfare there is a condition that may cause the lease to become null and void. The city managers added a clause to the lease contract that requires the Filipino Canadian community to raise $200,000.00 for necessary renovations to the building within 2 years, or the lease will be terminated. This appears to be a test to see if the Filipino Canadian community can come up with funds to support a community center. Until now, there has been no reason, cause or goal that the Filipino Canadians in Vaughan could rally to support. Now, we are asking for your help to build and establish the Filipino Canadian Cultural Center of Vaughan – a lasting legacy that will benefit our children and generations to come. A cultural center that will help nurture and educate future generations of our cultural traditions, our traits and the values that distinguish us and make us strong as a people. A center that would help establish a meeting place where we can gather together for family and social events. A center that would provide help, assistance and services for new comers, the unemployed, seniors and the youth A center that would help provide information, education and training A center that would enable the Filipino-Canadian community to cooperate and work with other community groups, government agencies and business institutions to improve our lives and contribute to the betterment of this city, this province and this great country. A center that will become a haven for those who need to feel “at home,” with people who understand and care. A Filipino Canadian Cultural Center that would showcase the best of who we are as a people and make you proud. There is a wonderful tradition in the Philippines called “Bayanihan”. The term “Bayanihan” refers to a spirit of Unity or Communal Effort to achieve a particular objective. The origin of the term Bayanihan can be traced to a common tradition in Philippine towns where neighbors in a community help a family move to a new place by lifting the whole house and carrying it to the new location. What a wonderful symbol of what we are trying to do here – people helping people to achieve the goal of building the Filipino Canadian Cultural Center in Vaughan. The Patricia Kemp Building is old and needs to be renovated. It needs an elevator to allow handicapped people to get to the second floor. The washrooms, electrical systems, floors and walls need to be upgraded. The gym needs to be expanded and improved so that full sports and social activities can be held in this venue. We need to upgrade the heating and air conditioning systems to make it comfortable all year round. We are trying to raise the funds needed to complete all these renovations and more. Here is how you can help. We are asking you to think about pledging a financial contribution to this project to build the Filipino Canadian Cultural Center in Vaughan. It will be a way that we can give back to our community. The Lord has blessed us all by giving us the opportunity to live in this great country of Canada. Many of us have raised our families and provided our children with opportunities that will help them succeed and provide for our future generations. But what have we done to leave a legacy that will teach our children to be proud of who they are and to be proud of their roots and their culture? This is your opportunity to leave that legacy for your children and future generations of Filipino-Canadians. We will build a bronze mural that will list the names of all those who will contribute to this project and will be permanently displayed it in a prominent location in the building. Your name or name of your association will be inscribed on this mural and future generations will see your names as one who has sacrificed to build this center. There are various levels of pledges that you can choose from: - Diamond - $10,000.00 - Platinum - $ 7,000.00 - Gold - $ 5,000.00 - Silver - $ 3,000.00 - Bronze - $ 1,000.00 Pledges may be paid by: - Visa, Master Card, Amex - Monthly installments up to a maximum of 12 months - One lump sum payment All contributions over $150.00 will receive a Tax Deductible receipt for your income taxes. Charitable registration no.: 86374 6376 RR0001. We want to touch the hearts of our kababayans and make you feel proud to be a Filipino! This is our opportunity to give back to your community. This is the time for us to stand up and be counted. This is the time for us to help each other carry this project in “Bayanihan” style! This is the time for us to build the Filipino Canadian Cultural Center of Vaughan. We want to see your name on that Bronze mural. Your children and your children’s children will look at the mural and see your name and remember your vision and the sacrifice that you made to build the Filipino Cultural Center of Vaughan as a living legacy for them. God Bless you as you consider helping us in this effort! Please do not hesitate to call us if you have any questions.
