Fill The House - 21 Day Fast: Day 17 Nothing will give you a greater sense of fulfillment in your life than freely giving something away that is valuable. If God is my source, then everything that I have belongs to Him, and I give Him the authority to direct it all. At a young age, my parents taught me to give a tithe to God in the church ministry where I was receiving spiritual nourishment. Because I was taught that the tithe belonged to God, it was something I grew up understanding to do. Many people think of giving a tithe (10%) of all their increase as a rule or regulation, and they try to formulate opinions on its validity. Honestly, I view the tithe as one of the greatest displays of trust and acknowledgement from God’s people that we are His children, and He is our God. Malachi 3:10-12 (NIV) 10 “Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this,” says the Lord Almighty, “and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that there will not be room enough to store it. 11 I will prevent pests from devouring your crops, and the vines in your fields will not drop their fruit before it is ripe,” says the Lord Almighty. 12 “Then all the nations will call you blessed, for yours will be a delightful land,” says the Lord Almighty. There are 3 things I want you to see in Malachi 3 today as precious promises from God for your life today. (1) Open Heaven. Giving God the tithe causes us to live under the open floodgates of heaven! The greatest blessings in my life have come from a strategy, concept or idea that God gave me in a moment that I couldn’t have worked a lifetime to get. Living under an open heaven is vital; sometimes you hear stories of people getting an unexpected check or inheritance, but a greater blessing of the tithe is that there is no thing God can’t share with you when there’s no constraint on what heaven has designed for your earthly experience. (2) Pest Prevention. There is no greater insurance policy than having God watch over what you have because you acknowledge and trust Him. Everytime I give my tithe, I have the authority at that moment to ask God to protect my family and everything God has given us. (3) Timing of the Harvest. I could provide testimony after testimony of God’s amazing timing and that he matured certain opportunities for the fruit to be ripe at a particular moment for my benefit. When we give God the tithe, He promises that we’ll be fruitful, but He also promises that He’s looking after the timing of every engagement that could bring our success so that it is right on time! Giving God the tithe is such a pleasure in my life. There’s such an intimacy in taking what God, the Creator, has given me and acknowledging Him with it. He sees my trust in Him, and He is a good Father. Today, position yourself to give the tithe. You’ll never want to leave the blessing and freedom that you experience of this covenant relationship with God once you and your family establish it!
