Final Fearless Forecast. Kentucky will win its 9th NCAA National - TopicsExpress

Final Fearless Forecast. Kentucky will win its 9th NCAA National Title at A.T. $ T. Stadium on April 7th, 2014. We need only look back at two low ranking seeds from 1984 and 1985. NC State upset Houston and Villanova did it to Georgetown. Take note, the coaches of these two teams were Jim Valvano and Rollie Massimino. One other team to note that would have won a title was from 1993. But not for that evil incarnate, Christian Laetner, Kentucky would have won that title. Laetner, who for some unknown reason was allowed to remain in the game after doing a tap dance on Aminu Timberlakes chest in the first half. That Kentucky team was coached by some guy named Pitino. Obviously, the basketball gods smile on underdogs coached by Italians. 2014 Kentucky Wildcats are an eight seed with a coach named Calipari. Is that a lock or not? Unfortunately, there are other factors coming into play for this game. UCONN has put together a nice little run in this tournament. Theyve beaten a 10 seed, a 2 seed, a 3 seed, a 4 seed and the overall number 1 seed in Florida. Theyve outscored their opponents by 41 points. Kentucky has beaten a 9 seed, a 1 seed, a 4 seed, a 2 seed and another 2 seed. Kentuckys cumulative margin of victory is 18. Oddity of performance against common opponents. UCONN lost to Louisville three times and beat Florida twice. Kentucky lost to Florida three times and beat Louisville twice. Wonder what tapes Kevin Ollie and John Calapari reviewed in depth. A shame Florida didnt make it an all SEC final four. After their loss the SEC record in the tourney is 12-2, the American Athletic represented by UCONN is now 8-3. The Big Ten wraps up at 10-6 after Wisconsins loss. With a 7 seed facing an 8 seed in the final, the Selection Committee takes a tumble. They seeded 24 teams ahead of these two. Once again, our freshmen will face a team dominated by Junior and Senior opponents. Both teams have demonstrated an ability to come from behind. The script for this game should mirror what weve seen throughout the tournament. Kentucky will bang the boards for put backs. UCONN will play more of a finesse game and they will make shots. Shabazz Napier is their heart and soul but, he has a good supporting cast. I suspect the Wildcats will torture me again and let this one come down to the wire again. A note about A.T. & T. stadium. Semi-final attendance was listed at 79444. Ive got to believe that at least 60000 of those were poor seats. Smart Phones and IPads offered the best view of the game. Another aside, if talent holds true to form, the UCONN ladies team will take on Notre Dame in their version of the NCAA Championship. My prognostication. The Lady Huskies win, the Mens team falls to Kentucky by 8 points. QED.
