Final Instructions for Barnstaple Marathon and Half Marathon Race Numbers and Chips We will not be sending out Race numbers and Chips. They will be available to collect on race day from the registration area from 8am which is at Park School Sports Hall. Changing your race entry If you have entered the full marathon and wish to only do the half, you will be able to change your registration. There will be a desk for changing races in the sports hall. You will need to have collected your race envelope prior to changing your entry. Likewise if you wish to do the marathon you will be able to change but you will have to pay a £7 surchage. Water Stations There are 14 water stations on the full marathon course and 5 on the half. The full marathon has gels on 2 stations and bananas on 1 as well as a selection of sports drinks. If the weather is very hot we will put an additional water station on the marathon course. Each water station will have sponges, vaseline and basic first aid supplies. First Aid We have a first aid station in the park, and will have first aiders on the course at Fremington, Yelland and Chivenor. There will be first aiders on bikes at the back of the pack. Massages Post race massages are available by the excellent North Devon Sports Injury Clinic. Their website can be found here. The massages are FREE but we ask that you make a donation in the buckets provided northdevonsportsinjuryclinic.co.uk/ Course marking and measurement The course is marked every mile, this has been done using a measuring wheel and so the markers are completely accurate. they may well disagree with your GPS but we thoroughly recommend you use the mile markers as an accurate gauge. Likewise the course has been certified and measured twice using a measuring wheel by a certified course measurer. It is accurate to within 90cms. Getting to the race HQ Race HQ is at Park School Sports Hall, there are changing facilities and showers there. There is limited parking at the school which will fill quickly. There is limited public transport on a Sunday. You cannot park in Rock Park as the road is closed all day. We recommend that you park at Severn Brethren Car Park (by the leisure centre) or at the Tarka Tennis centre and walk over the iron bridge. There will be signs and marshals to direct you from the car park. There will be signs to the car park from the Link road. Spectators We have a large event village with bouncy castles, face painting, entertainment and loads of food and drinks stalls. Please bring your family and friends along to support you. The event village in Rock Park will be a great place to start, or the Square in Barnstaple will also be a good location. Other great places to watch are Fremington Quay, Yelland (by the old power station), the Strand/Civic centre car park, Chivenor Roundabout or Vellator. Fremington Quay Fremington Quay will be a busy and popular place to watch the race. Childrens Hospice South West are hosting the water station and have entertainment as well. However the quay will be busy and parking is limited so arrive early. Bear in mind that the road in and out of the Quay will be closed from 10.15 until 11am so once you are there, you are there until the road reopens at 11am.
