Finale; Red Wings 4, Devils 2. After two very ordinary games on the road in Ottawa and New York the Red Wings had some work to do to return to winning form when they hosted the Devils. Even though they scraped two points on the road their performances should have been a lot better then they produced. However they didnt get off to a brilliant start in this game as has been the trend of late. The Devils did play the previous night going to extra time against the hot St Louis Blues so if anything they got the jump early on the Wings. but the looks of it the Devils were faster, stronger and more dominant. It took them a while to get any shots on Jimmy Howard and when they did they scored on the first one. Steve Bernier and his fellow 4th line mates made it 1-0. Honestly the Wings looked like they had been playing too many games and the extra time was starting to take its toll on them, their skating was slow passing just all over the place. Things really didnt get going for Detroit until the Devils kept taking penalties, only the did it all start to click with an extended power play Jakub Kindl opened the home teams account with a PP tally to tie the game up 1-1. Just about 30seconds later, Brendan Smith, known for always rushing up and being the late man on plays got due reward as he shot one through to make it 2-1. A lead like this seemed unlikely before, but the Wings made it happen. With a lead heading into the second period Detroit kept the pressure on their fore-checking improved 10 folds and they became aggressive, and possessive of the puck. At least its saved Babcock doing anymore yelling as his team finally got to playing great hockey. Chances kept being created only for those to keep missing, through wide shots, and good defensive work from the Devils and of course ht play of Schnedier whom was doing pretty well. The goals could have been a lot more if not for him being so sturdy. His counterpart, Jimmy Howard faced least shots and did a very solid job of turning away most o the limited chances from the Devils. Detroits power play has been up and down...around and all over the place in games where sometimes they nail it and other times you just wanna shake your head and roll your eyes. Today; was one of those games were it clicked Johan Franzen only needed a few seconds into the 2nd period power play, to give the Wings a 3-1 lead and Niklas Kronwall flow sit up with a big blasting snapshot that had everyone looking around to find the puck only to see it end up in the back of the net and the Wings looked well in control 4-1. However the Devils were the one to take advantage in the 3rd period scoring nice and early and it was none other then the former Wing and Predator Jordin Tootoo whom was involved int eh Devils first goal way back in the 1st period. He made the most of it and slotted their 2nd of the game in to narrow the gap 4-2. That would be all for the Devils though as they were unable to muster much for the remainder; still they werent without chances as the Wings got a little slack and sloppy around their own end coughing up too many pucks. A late power play chance for the visitors saw them pull the goalie for an extra attacker but were unable to make the most of it and the Wings stuck it out. Vickis Three Stars: 3 - Howard, 15 Saves. 2 - Kindl, 1 goal 1, Kronwall, 1 goal 1 assist. Good Night and see you all on Sunday!! ~ Vick.
