Finally, Lunchtime! Wow! The morning and early afternoon flew! Thats a good thing. Now a breather. Food and Internet surfing. **TOTAL GEEK ALERT** For my fellow space opera fans there is an awesome article on Kotaku about my favorite anime, Space Battleship Yamato 2199. I agree with a whole lot of what the reviewer says, but what the reviewer says is bad, and its not much, really isnt bad and its explained by others as to why its not. By the way, if youre interested in SBY2199 drop me a private message and we can arrange a viewing. We will have to watch it over several days. You need to bring beer and buffalo wings. :-) **Heres the review** kotaku/great-article-and-i-agree-with-most-of-your-assestment-1444611829 For those interested, heres the explanations of why the bad isnt bad from, The Good, the bad and Godzilla. augustragone.blogspot/ Great article and I agree with most of your assessment of the series, except for your Bad section. Most of these are logical in the bigger canonical picture, or within the YAMATO 2199s own internal logic: RE: ALIENS: Since YAMATO 2199 is drawing from the vast universe of previous productions, sprinkled throughout the series, it was hinted that all of the humanoid alien races were spawned from the same seed. And life on Earth was planted by the Aquarians (who are mentioned in Y2199). So, if youre aware of the canon, its not a stretch. Plus, we have the extinct insectoid race on Beemera IV, as well as the giant dragonfly-like insect, and the gaseous lifeform used against the Yamato, which are far from humanoid. So, I think we can cut them some slack (they cant stray too far from the original in this regard), but I would also like to see more non-humanoid lifeforms in future stories (yes, there are more Y2199 adventures in the works). RE: RELOCATION: The original plan to relocate humanity to another planet (The Izumo Plan) was scrapped by the Earth Federation for exactly this reason; and instead press all of their efforts into the Yamato Plan — to travel to Iscandar to save our world. But, clandestine agents are placed aboard the Yamato (by General Serizawa, who intiated the war with Garmillas). Led by Security Officer Ito, they bide their time until they are well beyond contact with Earth, then launch their coup to commandeer the ship. So, not a screenwriting flaw or lazy writing, IMHO. (BTW, the series was in development for four years before production, and all of the teleplays were written before they rendered a single frame of the series.) RE: DIMENSIONAL SUB: When we come into the episode, the stand-off between the Yamato (hiding in a fissure on a hunk of interstellar medium) and the Garmillas. The dialogue notes the long passage of time since the surprise attack happened, and current time we come into this story. According to dialogue in the series, the Wave Motion Shields can only run for twenty minutes at a time. There is no mention, to my recollection, as to the recharging time involved, or how much energy it drains. So, this is also not a problem, IMHO. Again, nothings perfect, but its great to see a really positive article on the series; and thanks for spreading the love!
