Finally got to see one Cinemalaya movie last night: Sundalong - TopicsExpress

Finally got to see one Cinemalaya movie last night: Sundalong Kanin or Rice Soldiers. The script and its execution was amazing. Equal parts funny and heart wrenching at times. The movie tells the story of four kids living in a small barrio during World War 2 and the Japanese occupation of the Philippines. The subsequent experiences that the 4 kids go through will definitely take you on an emotional roller coaster. Despite not going the graphical route of portraying the horrors of war (not too much blood and gore), the scenes still strongly bring home the amount of devastation that war causes. The movie was also helped by a strong performance by the cast including the kids. The script and the performances are guaranteed to evoke strong emotional responses from the audience. I enjoyed Sundalong Kanin immensely but was so emotionally drained afterwards. Thats how strongly the movie connected with me on an emotional level. I felt emotionally drained and physically tired. Please do support good Philippine movies by catching Cinemalaya until August 10 at the CCP and Ayala cinemas. #cinemalaya #sundalongkanin #ricesoldiers Apple, Richard, Erwin, Richard, Desky
