Find out more about participating regions and organizations. East & North Finland: East and North Finland EU office represents the interest of seven regions in Brussels. All of the regions work actively with design in all its forms from traditional arts and crafts and industrial design to innovative use of design for the development of the regions’ businesses and services. Region of Lapland aims to support competitiveness of the region and increase the volume of design in private and public sectors through the implementation of its design programme: Kirnu – Lapland Design Programme 2010 – 2015. Lapland also hosts the world’s northernmost design week: Arctic Design Week. The backbone of the region’s design knowhow is formed by the University of Lapland which focuses on Arctic Design ranging from the simplistic northern aesthetics to the solutions needed to respond to the global societal challenges and adapt to the specific conditions of the North. The region of North-Savo is the home of Kuopio Academy of Design which concenrates on areas such as service design, design in improving workplace well-being and using digital games in rehabilitation. The Academy fosters collaboration with other stakeholders by providing research, design and product development services through Design Forum. Oulu region concentrates in developing the region’s businesses and services through Servo, a cluster of various actors providing tools of interface design, industrial design and service productising. In North Karelia region, the design activities of Karelia University of Applied Science aim not only to create more value to businesses but also to create social value and develop entrepreneurship. Example of such is Life 2.0: a project concentrating on the development of different technologies and services for senior people, which was awarded with Design for All Foundation Award in 2013.
