Finding myself a lot annoyed because I see people on FB use the Appeal to Authority logical fallacy incorrectly, while attempting to rebuff others comments: Wiki says, Fallacious examples of using the appeal [to authority] include any appeal to authority used in the context of deductive reasoning, and appealing to the position of an authority or authorities to dismiss evidence. There are times when its appropriate to quote an expert in a discussion, to provide information. Just because the person who disagrees then shouts, Appeal to Authority! Youre illogical and - therefore - wrong! does not make THEM correct. If philosophers are so smart that they can dismiss every expert opinion/idea on every subject, then we dont need anyone except PHILOSOPHERS, right? Okay, I know someone found logical fallacies in my status.
