Finished “The Summons” by John Grisham Another good novel from America’s premier attorney turned author. This novel is about “the summons” a law professor named Ray Atlee receives from his estranged father, a well-known local retired judge, to come home and discuss his will and final arrangements. When Ray arrives he finds his father is alone and has already died. Nothing unusual in all of this except he finds a little over $3 million in cash hidden in the Judge’s study and no way to account for this cash. It becomes clear that no one, not sometimes drug addicted, sometimes clean younger brother, his father’s closest legal colleague and friend, Harry Rex Vonner, nor his former secretary and lover, know anything at all about this money . The novel is mostly about Ray’s attempts to find out where the money came from and later, who is harassing him about the money. The novel has an interesting ending that I didn’t see coming until near the vary end. A good enjoyable legal ‘who dunnit’…if you enjoy Grisham’s other works you’ll enjoy this one.
