Firefighters are battling a large factory fire at a waste management facility, with a number of buildings alight, in Lansvale. Crews responded to the scene in Day Street at about 3.30pm to find thick plumes of black smoke issusing. Video below courtesy of the NSW RFS. Avoid the area, and give way to any responding emergency services in the area. Smoke is impacting the hume highway, motorists in the area should exercise care and caution in areas of reduced visibility around the incident. Residents in the immediate area are advised to take the following precautions: - Keep doors and windows closed to prevent smoke entering homes - Ensure pets have a protected area - Vehicles must slow down, keep windows up, turn headlights on - If you have asthma or a lung condition, reduce outdoor activities if smoke levels are high and if shortness of breath or coughing develops, take your reliever medicine or seek medical advice. - Follow instructions from firefighters and other emergency services.
