First Cretan “Race for life” & fun day. Delighted to be able to use this page to offer hearty congratulations to Karen Morley and her race for life & fun day committee in so successfully organising the very first event of this kind to be held in Crete. Even Greek TV sent a news team & camera crew to cover the event! I understand that the amount of money raised so far, to be shared between cancer care & research organisations both here and in the UK, stands at close on four and a half thousand euros. Already an incredible figure but still rising I believe! Congratulations, and thanks, must also go to the Blue Bay Suites in Tavronitis who provided the venue for this event. Their management & staff so ably hosted the occasion it was brilliant! Well done! Actually the Blue Bay has very much become a thriving social centre for Expats living along the far north west coastline of Crete - between Kissamos & Chania – and they are fabulous at organising private parties & functions, with or without food, entertainment, music etc, plus they are able to offer overnight accommodation to anyone travelling any distance in order to attend these events who would like to take advantage of their facilities. The fantasy league’s “home venue” for social events, The Stardust Taverna, Exopoli, Georgeoupoli, is well established but, as our numbers grow and our membership area widens, I think the Blue Bay well worth proposing as a host venue for an additional annual event. That leads me on to wonder whether any of our players located east of Rethymno know of anywhere else able to offer similar facilities to the Blue Bay for hosting social events - in the Heraklion or Agios Nikolaos regions for example – in order that our futures functions may become even more widespread as they increase in number from the current two to perhaps four or five per season. Now there’s plenty to think on! Meanwhile raise a glass to Karen Morley and her team of race for life organisers for their fantastic effort yesterday.
