First let me say that this years garden really did poorly. First time in my Arkie home. The tomatoes started out great but Something ate all of the plants but one. That one started growing well and producing flowers and tiny tomatoes, but I only got 2 tomatoes off because a sudden fungus took over all leaves. Yes, first drought then 2 weeks of daily rain and little sun. I did use soaker hose during dry time. Now watermelon and corn are getting the same spots, so I am trying . . . Corn meal . . . yes you read that. Ignoring GMOs I will try this in order to get some yield. This is why. Researchers at Texas A&M Research Station in Stephenville, TX, noticed that a peanut crop planted following a crop of corn didnt suffer the usual fungus diseases. Further research showed that cornmeal contained beneficial organisms that were at least as effective as common chemical fungicides. Somehow cornmeal is able to attract a member of the Trichoderma fungus family, which is a good fungus that kills off disease causing fungi in a matter of weeks.
