First of all, let me warn anyone who hasnt seen this video from this mornings Islamic Terror attack in Paris that it is somewhat graphic (and should be disturbing). But the graphic nature is not all that you should take away from it... The greater point that you have to grasp is that EVIL exists. Period. It is real, it is out there. You cannot reason with it. You cannot argue with it. You cannot educate it, rationalize it or diminish its reality in any way. BUT you CAN shoot it in the face. This man (a police officer) was executed by a rifle shot to the head as he lay begging. He was one of twelve murdered in this mornings attack. You can talk all you want about gun control, peaceful resolution, cultural divides - you can dredge up any catchphrase you wish about how violence never solves anything or giving peace a chance. That works well in a debate or discussion, not so much once youre in the crosshairs of someone who doesnt care to engage in your chosen manner of discourse. At the end of the day, the only real cure for an evil man with a gun is a good man with a gun. ANYTHING less is a joke, its at YOUR expense - and the punchline is your life draining out of a gunshot wound on some dirty sidewalk or your office floor. Imagine if the person filming this horrific footage had a rifle instead of a cell phone. Imagine if he spent a fraction of the time he blew last month surfing the web, watching TV or swinging a golf club LEARNING how to use that weapon, TRAINING to do so, and mentally PREPARING himself for the possibility that he might one day find himself in such a situation. This was Paris, France - where the populace is disarmed and far too enlightened to need access to such weaponry and/or training. I guess the bad guys in that same little cultured corner of the world skipped that day in charm school. You, however, are in the USA. In the vast majority of places you have the RIGHT and the ABILITY to possess defensive weaponry and train to use the same. You dont have the same excuse as the guy on this rooftop who used his iPhone to witness a good mans death instead of using his own weapon to intervene. Can it happen here? This incident was over a CARTOON. A cartoon... Let that sink in. Colored ink on paper. 12 dead. Would it have been bloodless and clean had the victims been armed? Probably not. Would it have ended with 12 dead and the attackers driving away? Almost CERTAINLY not. Something about victims shooting back seems to change the course of these types of event. Theyre out there. Animals just like the ones in the video. Train accordingly.
