First thoughts yesterday morning, gutted, depressed, hugely - TopicsExpress

First thoughts yesterday morning, gutted, depressed, hugely disappointed, an element of disbelief: this can’t be happening - we were SO sure that we had enough support to do it at last. Thinking, “This is ghastly. I really don’t want to be here listening to these dreadful BBC reporters, all these patronising and condescending unionists gloating and scoffing.” Then comes a phonecall as I sit in the half-light of the still-curtained room, from my friend Elspeth who has been up all night, and she puts it all into perspective!! We have done an amazing thing! We have totally shaken up the Westminster establishment with our 84% vote! They’ve GOT to listen to Scotland now and they’re going to have to follow through on those powers they “vowed” to give us! More powers for other areas of England, for Wales and for Northern Ireland too. If they fail to give us substantial powers, then many no voters who really thought they were voting for devo-max, will see that Westminster have broken their mandate (made at the eleventh hour, possibly illegally) and we will have to have another referendum!! YES!! As daylight floods the room, I see that what was all gloom and doom actually becomes something rather wonderful. (As a Christian I can see that this is God at work to give my English, Welsh and Irish brothers and sisters some much needed political changes too!!) We Scots have shaken up the system, and all is not lost, because we live to fight another day! A certain unionist political leader talked about the Scots’ “genetic programming” - well, to use her phrase, we are most definitely “genetically programmed” to rise, like a Phoenix from the ashes, to fight again!! We always did, and we always will! The Spirit of Independence lives on!! This is all I have time for now. More anon!! P.S. When’s the next SNP branch meeting!!
