Fish Report ROCKFISH- Fish are beginning to move into the shallow waters of the rivers and creeks. The tope water bite has really begun to pick up in the early morning and later evening using smack-it plugs, atom poppers and spook poppers. Putting a deceiver with a 18” leader from the rear of the lure sometimes entices the fish to strike the sub-surface lure and looks more like “schooling fish”. Chumming has really started to pick up big time and there are some very nice fish being caught. Fresh alewife on a 4/0 36” leadered hook using a fishfinder rig has been the best way to pick up some late summer rockfish. Fish have been in the 18” to 33” range. Trolling has also been producing well. With the fall trophy season right around the corner anglers are starting to get geared towards there fall spread. Smaller bucktails and spoons have been producing very well but the hot ticket of late has been 10” red surgical tubing either behind a #2 planer or in-line sinkers. Look to work around main points and channel edges. Blue fish are also being caught in good numbers in the 6-25ft range. Using cut spot or shiners has been working very well on wire leaders with a size 1 or 1/0 hook. CRABBING- Crabbing is still going strong. Recreational crabbers are still catching plenty of nice heavy crabs and right now is the best time to get the big ones! Trotline or traps and either chicken necks or razor clams look to crab in the 7-15ft range. As the weather changes and temperature drops crabs begin to make there move into deeper water to stay for the winter.
