Fishing update: Looks like the walleye are done spawning in most of the lakes. I did see a few schools of post-spawn walleyes roaming yesterday when I was bass fishing. We have had some larger males and females spawning right along the shore in front of the camp the last few days, but our lake is an exception due to it being a deeper, colder, trout lake they will spawn later here. Bass have been starting to migrate into the shallows in good numbers. Was out yesterday for a few hours and landed about 50 of them, with a lot of larger pike in 2-6 feet of water as well. Many of the bass were just roamers looking for a spot to set up in the bays and prepare making beds for the upcoming spawn period. I did see a few fresh beds they are already fanning now though. As I mentioned, lots of nice pike are right up shallow following the bass and suckers into the shallows. Many schools of 1-3 inch perch are a prime forage of all shallow fish right now too. Saw one 35 inch pike yesterday with an 18 inch pike crossways in its mouth going right along side the boat. This past weekend I did get a chance to do some laker fishing and we landed 10 trout in less than two hours, all between 4 and 9 pounds. They were up in the shallows chasing schools of bait fish around in 5-15 feet of water. We were able to watch a lot of them take the jigs right near the boat. On Marmion Lake, surface temps were ranging from 60-64 degrees already. Water levels are still somewhat high in most of the lakes around us.
