Fishtank Ensemble Friday, August 2, 2013 9:00 PM Kelowna Community Theatre, 1375 Water Street, Kelowna Fishtank Ensemble is a four-piece, gypsy jazz band from Los Angeles. Founded in 2005, this group of eclectic talented musicians has toured the world playing everything from festivals, parades and cultural centers to some of LA’s hottest clubs on the circuit. Pulling from their years of travel and respective national backgrounds, the ensemble blends the unique sounds of International jazz with gypsy tunes. Traveling through the streets of Europe in a handmade mule-drawn caravan, Fishtank’s French violinist developed a unique sound stemming from his adventures and collection of experiences. Singer Ursula developed a love of gypsy music while singing on the streets and in town squares in Italy and their Serbian bass player spent years playing with rock and roll legends while their guitarist developed his sound among flamenco groups and the cave gypsies in Spain. Masters of their craft, this quartet offers a brand of music unlike anything heard around the world. Featuring two violins, flamenco and gypsy guitar, vocals, bass guitar and musical saw, Fishtank has released three (3) full-length albums that take listeners on a journey through the music of folk, gypsy, jazz, opera and everything in between. Fishtank’s most recent album Woman in Sin showcases the group’s wide range of musical interpretation with their classic swing title track, a twist on the Romanian “Amurfat de la Haidouk”, and a cover of the classic jazz piece “Fever”. According to USA Today, Fishtank’s album is “fresh and flirty” and a “boatload of fabulous.” Masterfully blended, Woman in Sin showcases the complex depth of musicianship and offers listeners a rare, compelling album.
