Five Kimberley traditional owner groups have been gaining skills to protect their precious rock art sites. Parks and Wildlife recently invited NSW-based conservator Dave Lambert to conduct a hands-on rock art conservation course, focusing on techniques for protecting art from damaging impacts including water wash from rain, and leaching of salts and minerals from the rock. Mirriuwung Gajerrong ranger Raymond Bradshaw was enthusiastic about the course. “It was good spending time with old people, learning about sacred sites and the importance of protecting them from animals, fire or anything destroying it.” dpaw.wa.gov.au/news/media-statements
