Five Merseysiders face sentence for Liverpool attack on anti-fascist group Liverpool Crown Court By Gary Stewart | 2 Sep 2013 14:32 Four Merseyside men and a teenager will be sentenced for their part in an attack on an anti-fascist demonstration on Bold Street. The men, who are associated with a far right political group, attacked demonstrators on June 6 last year and left marchers with minor injuries. Those in the dock, along with two men from Blackburn, had been due to stand trial after denying charges of violent disorder but most of them changed their plea to guilty last week. The ECHO was prevented from reporting their pleas ahead of the trial until the final three also admitted their guilt today. CCTV referred to in court showed one of the men receiving a phone call before others moved to intercept the anti-fascist demonstrators, but Anya Horwood, prosecuting, conceded that some of them may not have been aware that violence was about to break out. The defendants are Liam Pinkham, Matthew Coates, Michael Kearns, Nathan Smith, and a 17-year-old who cannot be named. The two from Blackburn are Peter Hawley and Shane Calvert. Judge Robert Trevor-Jones adjourned sentencing until September 26 for pre-sentence reports to be prepared.
