Fix your eyes upon Jesus. Look full in His wonderful face and the - TopicsExpress

Fix your eyes upon Jesus. Look full in His wonderful face and the things of earth will go strangely dim, in the light of His Glory and Grace. I have been reminded of this song almost every day for the past week. Several days the topic of my daily devotional has been about keeping my focus on God, so I don’t let life overwhelm me. This has been my prayer for the past week and when I need to be reminded, God brings this song to my mind. Life is full of challenges that I find myself inadequate to handle. However, God can handle them through me if I “Fix my eyes upon Jesus”. In Matthew 14:29 Peter lost his focus. Peter and the other disciples were caught in a terrible storm and their boat was being tossed around by the brutal wind and waves. When Peter saw Jesus standing on the water, he asked Jesus if he could walk to him on the water. Peter was doing fine until “he took his eyes off Jesus” and looked at the raging water below him. He took his eyes off Jesus and focused on the storm, he was terrified and he started to sink. Peter did the only thing he knew to do. He cried out to Jesus to save him and Jesus did. I make the same mistake that Peter made. I focus on fear, insecurity, loneliness, discouragement, stress, and fatigue, rather than giving God thanks for all the blessings in my life. I was up Thursday night from midnight till about 1:30 a.m. with Jackson. While rocking him in the glider, instead of thinking about poor tired me and how I would function at work today, I thanked God that I have this little blessing in my life. I stroked his soft hair and he held my neck. I smelled his wonderful scent and thanked God for giving me health to be the Mimi I need to be to Jackson. I tried to focus my eyes on Jesus rather than what life has thrown at me. There will come a day when that little boy will not want me to hold him. He will be too big for that. He will not want me to dress him. He will be able to do it on his own. He will not want his friends to see me drop him off at school. He will be too cool. But after that, the day will come that he will remember his Mimi was always there for him, always came running when he cried out during the night. I will teach him to “fix his eyes upon Jesus” when the trials of life come.
